Designers We Love: The Xu Zhi AW18 Collection

The waxy shines and tassels incorporated into the pieces successfully bring the textures of oil paintings to life.

Established in 2014 by UK-based, Chinese designer Xuzhi Chen, eponymous label Xu Zhi makes its AW18 collection quite literally like ‘art’. Xu Zhi’s AW’18 line-up seamlessly combines and celebrates a multitude of ideas. It is a celebration of art and of its history; of femininity, gender fluidity and equality, by channelling historical icons in this #TimesUp era. With the 1879 painting ‘The Lady of Pity’ by Dante Gabriel Rossetti being the key piece of inspiration behind the collection, the designer ponders over the absoluteness of reality.

The collections features playful ankle length skirts that are paired with equally long, more boyishly structured coats, to create an androgynous look. The waxy shines and tassels incorporated into the pieces successfully bring the textures of oil paintings to life. With colours including pink, orange, navy, and a deep green, the collection brings with it a much appreciated tone of colour to the usually monochromatic Autumn/Winter season.
