When you’ve been following a particular innovator or individual for quite some time, you almost feel like you completely understand their perspective, style & aesthetic (even if you have never really interacted with them in person). Such is our feeling with designer Farah Al Mesbah.
We’ve been following the Kuwaiti style maven for many years now as avid followers of her Instagram feed (the ultimate fashion resource), and we were more than ecstatic to discover her eponymous label of luxurious ready-to-wear pieces. After developing a major crush on her Ramadan collection (an effervescent & vibrant line-up of dresses), we recently also came across her Resort 18 collection, which is equally, if not more stunning (even the detailing on the florally embellished gloves is impeccable). With so much love & adoration for the contemporary luxury design label, we decided to sit down with Farah herself, to unravel her many sources of inspirations, her daily routine & her journey thus far.
THE START OF THE FARAH AL MESBAH LABEL
Farah: What really formed this brand is my huge desire to share my art in my very own vision. The biggest aim of my designs is to make the woman who wears the pieces feel feminine again in this very busy world; reminding her that she’s a gorgeous show-stopper, that everyone in the room wouldn’t forget.

FARAH’S MANY SOURCES OF INSPIRATION
Farah: Usually culture and traditional customs inspire me so much; I find lots of beauty and rich context in those realms.
THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Farah: It has helped me quite a lot! people understood my vision, my taste and personality easily, as a result of social media. It has made it very easy for me to relate to my clients.

THE CHANGING FASHION MARKET IN THE GCC REGION
Farah: I think a very huge & noticeable change has happened in this region. Arts, trends & history, alongside today’s technology, are much more widely exposed now & inspire many individuals into giving life to their designs & ideas. As a result it has produced lots of talented designers. I find a lot of their work amazing!

A USUAL DAY IN FARAH’S LIFE
Farah: You either find me socialising or browsing encyclopedias or documentaries to invade a new territory of some sort of old culture or historical figures, getting inspired by the most random subjects. I’m always curious about eras and a kind of life, which I haven’t lived.
FARAH’S SS17 ‘MUST-HAVES’
Farah: The ‘must-have’ pieces from my current SS17 collection are the ‘Dorris‘ dress & ‘Vikk‘ dress.
