#AmanqiLoves: Lisou

We’ve been crushing on London-based ready-to-wear label Lisou for a while now (Honestly, who isn’t?). Synonymous with clean, minimalistic silhouettes and fresh, vibrants prints and textures, this contemporary luxury label, established by the talented designer Rene Macdonald, should be topping your wish list every season. Intrigued by the brand’s journey, we sat down with Rene to discuss all things fashion, her many sources of inspiration and the future of the label.

The Journey Thus Far

Rene: My mother was my biggest inspiration, she was the person who instilled in me my love of fashion. A love of colour and print played a part, too. It’s been hard work, but as well as a lot of fun. I’m lucky enough to do what I love so as pressurised as it can get, I can’t complain!

The Many Sources of Inspiration

Rene: I find that inspiration often comes from the strangest places. It could be the shape of a leaf, the cornice of a building or the colour of a wall, anything around me. It’s so important to look around, inspiration is everywhere. I do take photos of the strangest things.

An Usual Day in Team Lisou’s Life

Rene: I love the fact that we don’t have a usual day. Everyday is different. Some days it’s dealing with clients and orders, on others we’re shooting campaigns or street style images.  One thing that’s constant are my design days, it’s the only time I have to be in my own little zone.

The Brand 5 Years From Now

Rene: Hopefully, we’ll have grown as a brand whilst maintaining the family feel we have at Lisou HQ. Most importantly is to keep doing inspiring, beautiful work and enjoying every second.

The Insider Tip for Aspiring Designers

Rene:  Believe in yourself and your vision. You don’t have to take the advice you’re given but it is really important to listen. Great ideas come from everyone so be open to that and sometimes it is helpful to listen to advice from those with experience in the industry. Other than that go forth and create!
