Bringing his global background with craftsmanship expertise, Zaid’s eponymous label is dedicated to bringing to the forefront ready-to-wear pieces which imbibe a cultural fusion. Handmade and incorporating couture techniques and immaculate finishing and details, Zaid’s pieces also incorporate an artistic flair like no other. Intrigued by the designer’s journey, vision and ethos, we sat down with Zaid to discuss all things fashion, the impact of social media and his insider tips.
The Journey Thus Far
Zaid: I don’t think that I woke up one day and realised that I needed to start my own brand; it was a dream that I have had since I could remember. The journey has been nothing but amazing, of course there are the ups and downs and it is a mental battle to wake up and be better every day, and you teach yourself not to be affected by the small things because they will lead you away from your path.
The Many Sources of Inspiration
Zaid: I am really inspired by what surrounds me from day to day. Culture, background and the way I view the world inspires me as well. They all inspire me to create and share with people “my world”.
A Usual Day in Zaid’s Life
Zaid: Well my optimal day would be:
5 am – Wake up
7 – 8 am – Working out
9 am – At the office
6 or 7 pm – I would be out of the office
between 7 – 10pm – I would meet my friends
10 pm – Be at home ready for bed
The Impact of Social Media
Zaid: Social media allowed us to reach an audience faster and get in contact with people from across the world, that love my work and aesthetic.
5 Years From Now
Zaid: I see the brand expanding by opening more ateliers to cater to my clients around the world.
The Insider Tip for Aspiring Designers
Zaid: NEVER loose faith. Believe in the journey, every day is a new day, you fail, pick yourself and keep going, It might take a toll on you and you might feel burnt out, take a break, go on a vacation, take a day off, take yourself out for coffee – you are what drives the company. You are the brand’s greatest investment; do not neglect yourself or loose focus.
