We recently found a sartorial gem in the form of Kiev-based sustainable fashion label, Sleeping Gypsy. Inspired from the designers’ Ukranian heritage, each piece in the brand’s collections demonstrates a knowledge of culture, albeit with a modern twist. Imbibing this cultural fusion, each Sleeping Gypsy piece also reflects an awareness of sustainability & ethics, aspiring to make chic fashion more ‘green’.

As the team behind Sleeping Gypsy believes, “Our world doesn’t need more clothes … It needs better clothes”. Reflecting this ethos, the ready-to-wear pieces are created with locally sourced materials (often like linen), cutting transportation pollution, making the manufacturing process more sustainable & environmentally friendly (this ties in perfectly with the ‘no-waste’ approach, which we love).

The embroidered garments, inspired from the team’s Ukrainian heritage, reflect a modern twist on traditional design patterns, resulting in a beautiful amalgamation between the traditional & the contemporary. The partly hand-stitched dresses demonstrate meticulous attention to craftsmanship, tailoring, as well as the most intricate of details (this is one brand which definitely does not comprise on quality). With over 3000 metres of embroidery threads being used in each piece, the vibrant designs are stunning & carefully incepted.
