Sheen: The Interview

A Dubai favourite & jewellery design extraordinaire, Nosheen Bakhsh of Sheen has been a #TeamAmanqi favourite since the very beginning of our journey. Thus, it’s been more of a feeling of pride to see the brand grow immensely; gaining the recognition it deserves with showcases at the likes of London Fashion Week. Always a fan of the brand’s aesthetic, ethos & design, we sat down with the talented Nosheen to discuss the LFW experience, her new collection & everything that inspires her.

The London Fashion Week Experience

Nosheen: The experience was amazing. It was the first time Sheen was participating at the Designer Showrooms at London Fashion Week and also the first big international platform. It gave exposure and direct access to leaders in the industry and I am super grateful for the opportunity.

The New Collection

Nosheen: This collection was inspired by Rajasthan, a state in India with rich history and colourful traditions, which means I used a lot more colour than I previously have with the use of semi-precious and precious stones. The designs for this silver collection, ‘Chandi’, needed to be larger in scale in order to show off all the details and thats why the pieces from this collection can be described as ‘statement pieces’. They are generally larger and brighter than some of my previous collection designs. The idea was to bring traditional motifs to life in the form of a modern day contemporary trend such as statement earrings. It still stays true to my style though, which has always been quite intricate.

The Favourite Way to Style Sheen

Nosheen: I think the mandala earrings are one of my favourite pieces from the collection because they are so detailed, delicate and super light, yet really can transform your outfit. When it comes statement pieces, I prefer colour blocking with outfits – wearing simple and minimal colorus so you don’t take away from the jewellery. I think it’s better to avoid patterned or layered clothes because then theres too much going on.

The Future of Sheen

Nosheen: I’d hope by then (5 years from now) Sheen is sold in many international cities and stores and it is known for celebrating culture and its humanitarian efforts.

The Insider Tip for Aspiring Designers

Nosheen: Passion speaks for itself. Try to develop a unique style and be consistent with it. It helps establish a brand style and can make your brand/designs more memorable.
