Inspired by the origins of the blazer (worn as a status symbol of pride by the winning row teams at Oxford & Cambridge), each season, The King’s Mother presents a collection of blazers which incorporate the traditional craftsmanship and techniques required to make a blazer, all whilst adding an inventive flair (think cut out shapes, playful embellishments & sheer panels).

For SS17, The King’s Mother’s ‘Echos’ collection draws inspiration from the mystical aesthetic of the Sufi movement. Wishing to pay homage to the enlightening, accepting & self-healing characteristics of the philosophy, ‘Echos’ incorporates key Sufi symbols into the design through the use of embroidered motifs and fabric detailing. In particular, a lot of emphasis has been put on celestial imagery, resulting in star details & constellation-inspired design. Even on the sheer organza panels, the detailing symbolises the human aura, ensuring each aspect of the blazers resonate with the Sufi philosophy.

The cut-out structures & geometric panelling on the blazers is reminiscent of Sufi architecture, all incorporated in crepe, tweed, jacquard & organza fabrics. The pastel colour palette of sky blues, whites & soft pinks also ties in with the harmonious nature of Sufism ensuring that the blazers connote a sense of peace & harmony.

Incorporating both a striking aesthetic & deeper meaning, The King’s Mother’s SS17 collection, ‘Echos’ is mostly certainly one  summer collection which has a variety of streamlined blazer pieces to up your style game (we recommend wearing your blazer with a pair of distressed denim or cuffed shorts for a more laid-back look).
