The Skin Care Essentials

Skincare. If it’s one thing I have picked up from my mum, it’s that caring for your skin and finding out what works for you can be the best thing you can do for yourself after your health. Once you start getting into your 20s, taking extra precaution is definitely necessary in order to get your skin looking its best. Here are some of my essential products that will maybe become your next favourite! Don’t forget everyone’s skin is different and your skin can also be a reflection of your lifestyle and diet (Drink your water and eat your veggies girlies!).  It took me years of trial and error to find what products worked best for me, so when you do find what works, stick with it!

1) CLARISONIC

I remember when these first started to become popular, I just couldn’t wrap my head around how a rotating brush would really help cleanse my skin. I was wrong. 100% wrong. I use my ‘Smart Profile Device‘ religiously, especially when I really feel like I need to have a deep pore cleaning, and I absolutely love it (it’s almost like your giving yourself a facial). There’s several devices and brush heads available, and each one caters to different uses and skin types so it’s definitely worth a look at. There are also several products available on their website; I currently have the ‘Radiance Skin Illuminating Cleanser‘, the ‘Deep Pore Daily Cleanser‘, and the ‘Refreshing Gel‘. I love & recommend them all!

2) SKIN CEUTICALS

I’ll be one to admit, my skin is fussy and I have to be very careful with what products I use as I easily get allergic reactions. So, as soon as I find a product I love, I stick with it. I tried Skin Ceuticals after my mum sent me a cute care package when I first moved to London 3 years ago, and I’ve used and loved it since. I use the cleanser once a day, usually at night, to exfoliate and soothe my skin after I have removed my makeup with micellar water (Garnier is my ‘go-to’!). Once I’ve used the cleanser, I then like to use their toner to balance, refresh, and restore my skin’s protective pH barrier.

3) LA MER

Right, let me be clear; this little thing is so pricey it genuinely hurts my soul, but I couldn’t bring myself to not include it in my favourites. La Mer’s ‘Concentrated Eye Cream’ helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles (amongst other things), which unfortunately for me I have been cursed with due to genetics (not even because of lack of sleep). After using this for a while I definitely noticed a difference. Of course nothing will ever make my dark circles disappear, but I’ll take any help I can get!

4) AMAZONIAN CLAY MASK

If you still haven’t noticed a trend with the products I have listed, it’s that I LOVE deep cleansing. Living in London and wearing makeup, I make sure to really get everything out, especially as, let me be real, my pores are huge. If you haven’t heard of this product, I seriously think you have been living under a rock. The Amazonian Clay Mask is made out of 100% natural calcium bentonite clay and does not contain any animal products, additives, or fragrances, which is perfect for me and my sensitive/easily reactive skin. You can mix it with water, or apple cider vinegar which is what I like to do, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes to be left with a fresh, seriously clean feeling. I like to use it once a week, and for the price, it’s definitely worth the hype.

5) SISLEY

Of course to round off my current essentials, you have to have a moisturiser. The best moisturiser I’ve used so far is Sisley’s ‘Ecological Compound’. Composed of a series of plants that are used for their stimulating and revitalising actions, it hydrates and restores radiance while fighting off the environmental stress of living in a big city. Whenever I use this, I notice that my skin looks a bit more plumped and even, which is perfect when my skin starts to look a bit dull and needs that extra hydration.
