The world’s most internationally diverse art fair, Art Dubai returns to Madinat Jumeirah for its 13th edition, with the most extensive programme going beyond its 4 gallery sections to include commissions, performances, talks and new local initiatives.
Team Amanqi shares 6 of the most exciting programmes during the fair (March 20-23) guaranteed to keep the arts-curious to the die-hard art lovers engaged.
1) Performance Art
The Art Dubai 2019’s performance programme, developed by contemporary arts institution Kunsthalle Lissabon celebrates togetherness and explores the unifying aspects of gatherings of people for dances, processions and festivities as powerful tools to think about the world around us. Leave your inhibitions behind; visitors to the fair are invited to join in!
2) ‘L’Art de L’Or’ (‘The Art of Gold’)
Be dazzled by Piaget’s ‘L’Art de L’Or’ (‘The Art of Gold’) exhibition dedicated to the work of gold, the ultimate expression of the Maison’s craftsmanship, with a curated selection of high jewellery and installation by French Maître d’Art Pierre Bonnefille.
3) ‘Tolerance, has history’ – A Photography Exhibition
From the Private Collection of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, ‘Tolerance, has history’ is an exhibition of stunning rare photography which presents a compelling visual narrative of the tolerant and cooperative nature of the region’s social fabric in the 1960s and 1970s; the values on which the United Arab Emirates was built.
4) Art Dubai After Dark Programme 2019
Curated by online radio station and music platform NTS Radio, Art Dubai’s 2019 music programme will be mirroring the fair’s programming focus on “The Global South” with Alexander Nut with Zakia Sewell headlining on Tuesday with Latin sounds. Or you can move to African sounds on Wednesday, which will be headlined by Nabihah Iqbal and Zezi Ifore.
5) Art Dubai Commission: SOLAROCA by Opavivará
Certainly an Instagram highlight for this edition, SOLAROCA by Opavivará will be a beach-like environment under the shade of an ‘oca’ (a Brazilian indigenous house) fusing both Brazilian and Middle Eastern elements to get visitors mingling and forming new friendships. We like the sound of this!
6) ‘Creating New Worlds’: The Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program
For those with the little one, sign them up quick for Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program. There a workshops for children and teens to create their own cityscapes and imaginative utopias using found and recycled materials and engaging ‘discovery tours’ around the fair aimed at encouraging an interest in the arts.
